Gifted and talented children learn earlier, faster, more efficiently, and differently than their peers. In developed countries, these children are raised and educated with specialized education programs, in an environment that enables them to develop their talents. Years' worth of research reveals that, if these gifted and talented children are not provided suitable environments to develop their skills, they become unhappy individuals.
It is known that the Turkish education system doesn’t provide special facilities for the gifted and talented children in our country. Parents who realize that their children are gifted are not always able to find appropriate schools or programs for them.
İnanç High School was founded by Sezai Türkeş, who was an associate of STFA Companies, in memory of his wife İnanç Türkeş, who passed away in 1989. Mr. Türkeş founded the school in order to pursue his dreams about education and to preserve the memory of his wife İnanç Türkeş. İnanç High School opened its doors and started its first academic year in 1993 with a small group of students. The Turkish Education Foundation (TEV) took over the school and the entire responsibilty of the continuity of academic life while the school faced economic strains in 2001. The school's name was changed to TEVITOL at that time.
In TEVITOL, students receive either full or partial financial aid from the school, and they are all expected to live on campus. Our students are selected very carefully with specialized talent and intelligence tests every year, and they continue their education with the assitance of both Turkish and foreign teachers.
TEVITOL provides students with a 5-year education, the first one being an English-intensive prep year, follow by four full years of high school. Our school has been graduating students since 2000, and our graduates have been continuing their undergraduate and graduate education in Turkey and abroad with scholarship since that time.
As of the 2009-2010 academic year, we have 198 students; 93 girls and 105 boys. We also have three students who are studying abroad with youth exchange programs like AFS/YES. Other than our students, we have one headmaster, one dean of students, and 40 teachers who make the academic life at TEVITOL possible.
TEVITOL is a unique high school in many respects. What makes the school so special is not only the intentions behind its foundation or the physical appearance, but the people who contribute to the school's noble purpose and our gifted and talented students who study here. Our goal is to educate individuals who will be loyal to Ataturk's principles, secular, democratic, respectful to civil liberties and human rights, and who will also internalize the national and universal values, and undertake leaderhip positions in areas like science, arts, and politics.
In our school, alongside running the MEB (Turkish Ministry of Education) program, other activities and educative methods are pursued in order to enable our students to reveal and develop their gifts and talents, carry them to international platforms, and make them leaders who will determine the future of our country and of the entire world. We recommend all of our teachers who work with us to approach our students knowing and respecting these different qualities and to be conscious of the demanding responsibility of carrying out this specialized education system.
We wish you a happy, productive, and successful year, hoping that this brief information, which is prepared according to the principles that are summarized above, will be helpful to you.
